Workplace Spirometry Tests

We can offer an on-site testing service or as it is often called, lung function testing or pulmonary testing.  Our service isfully compliant with the statutory Health Surveillance requirements of the COSHH regulations for substances identified as respiratory sensitisers.

Substances that can cause Occupational Lung Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or Occupational Asthma normally trigger a Health Surveillance requirement.  Examples are:

Occupational asthma
Isocyanates
Welding fumes
Dust and other airborne particulates (inlcuding wood dust)
Paints / adheshives / resins
Glutaraledehyde
Latex
Soldering flux

Lung disease / COPD

Asbestos
Silica dust / respirable crystalline silica (RCS)
Ceramic fibre

Please note, this is not an exhaustive list and you should refer to the latest COSHH regulations for full listings.

Our testing typically takes about 15 minutes per person.  This includes a review of a questionnaire (to be completed by each individual), the test itself and an explanation of the results.  The test is relatively straightforward; after quick instructions on how to 'blow correctly', the subject is simply asked to blow into the spirometer.  The test may be repeated a couple of times to ensure results are consistent.  Any person failing the tests or showing a marked reduction from the last results will be referred onward to a doctor.
