At Chester Crown Court, the owner of P and S Ashley Timberworks Ltd of Sandbach has been fined £80K after pleading guilty to 8 breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Lack of a suitable and sufficient risk assessment attracted a £30K fine; £20K for a failure to take suitable and sufficient preventative and protective measures; and £30K for 6 other infractions, including insufficient means of raising the alarm in the event of fire and unsuitable means of escape.
Additionally costs of £50,300 were to be paid to Chester Fire and Rescue Service.
The company was taken to court as a result of repeatedly failing to carry out essential fire safety work in the business.
