Companies not meeting First Aid Requirements

According to St John Ambulance, many companies are inadvertently breaking health and safety laws by not training enough staff in first aid.

A survey by the first aid charity found that 79% of companies had periods where no trained first aiders were in the workplace.

Whilst many companies train the number of staff that they are required by law to train, they do not appreciate that they also have to ensure that there is cover if any of those first aiders are absent from work for any reason.

In 2008 / 09, there were some 105,000 serious workplace injuries that resulted in absence from work and 180 deaths in the workplace.

It is imperative that adequate people have these skills within the workplace, as ultimately they can save lives.
